The International Humanity Foundation is looking for volunteers to serve our centre in Jakarta, Indonesia, and be friends and teachers to our children. By bringing together disadvantaged children of Indonesia and volunteers from across the world, there is a learning opportunity for both. As both sides discover more about each other, their lives and their cultures and teach their own friends about this, we hope to create a world of greater understanding and compassion.

Work

IHF needs people with all skills. No matter your experience, whether a student or retired professional, IHF needs you. At the centre, work-study volunteers divide their time between playing with and teaching the children and working on international projects . The centre host English, computer and math classes, and the children often seek tutoring for their homework, all tasks which work-study
volunteers take part in.

The IHF work study program is an intensive learning experience. It provides you with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working
with an international non-profit and in myriad scenes of poverty. All volunteers participate on one or more of our international task teams such as university relations, photography and child watch. To qualify to serve at a centre, volunteers must complete 12 hours of work on one of the teams, and they continue to participate on the team once at the centre. (In the rare case where you lack the ability to complete these hours but possess certain trade skills in agriculture, construction or others needed at one of our centres, you may be exempt from these pre-trip hours. If this is the case, be sure to immediately get in contact with the centre director to discuss your situation and
possible alternative tasks.)

It is important to note that these are intensive experiences. Even before your arrival at the center, you must work 12 hours on international tasks to demonstrate your work ethic. Once at the center, IHF requires its work-study volunteers to work eight hours a day on at-center and international tasks, six day a week. There is time to sightsee and tour the nation, but work is always the first priority. IHF depends on its volunteers to function and to love the children. If you are not prepared to devote this time to work, you should look elsewhere for your service experience.

All work-study volunteers will be on probation for their first week at the center. During this time you will be evaluated by the children. If you are deemed abusive or not safe or the children are fearful for any reason, you will be asked to leave. This does not happen often but sadly has had to be implemented to protect the children.
Upon the completion of your term of service at the center, you will receive an IHF Certificate of Graduation from our CEO, Carol Sasaki. The certificate will detail your work and experiences while at the center and grade your performance.

Cost

IHF is committed to offering a flexible, affordable service experience. Upon acceptance as a work-study volunteer, you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of USD $100 which will be credited toward your weekly fee upon arrival. Once at the center, work-study volunteers pay only USD $100 a week to cover the costs for their training and room and board, both very simple. (If you commit to serve for six months or longer, you must only pay USD $600.)

Qualifications

Volunteers with IHF must speak English fluently and have a great attitude. They must also be mature, responsible, team players, fast learners, flexible and interested in global change through education and service.

Most importantly, our volunteers must have an open heart and a willingness to help others and make a difference!

Please visit www.ihfonline.org or send us an email at volunteering@ihfonline.org if you want to learn more or have questions about volunteering with IHF.

Teach / volunteer in nonprofit community organization in Nepal

We (Samarpan Nepal) - women led community nonprofit organization working for poor, impoverished children, orphans in Nepal - have 30 poor, impoverished kids in our Samarpan Nepal Kids family. For teaching, classes are divided into 2 section i. e. Senior kids and Junior kids class. We teach English language, Maths, Science, Drawing, Painting, Music, Sports etc.
Some of them are school drop outs because of the poverty and all of them are poor. Their parent's average income is less than US$ 1 per day though working 10 hours or more. Some of them are orphans too.
We are providing them free education regularly 4 hours per day and providing them books, stationary supplies too. We would like to call for volunteers from across the world to teach them as we always need teachers to run our classes.
As our organization is not enough to pay for the food and things for volunteers, the volunteers have to pay the fee for it.

Fee (pay after visiting our office in Nepal in person):
US$ 320 for a week
US$ 600 for a month
(Includes all meals, accommodation, airport pick up and drop off)

Volunteering program start date:

This project is looking for up to 10 volunteers to teach English language for the 2010 school year. Volunteers are required from early February until December 2010. Teachers will have the option to teach pre-school level up though high school level students. Teachers will be able to request which grade levels they prefer. An English language easy-to-follow curriculum will be provided for all grade levels, but teachers are always free to be creative and work outside the curriculum when planning lessons.

The school prefers people who are able to make at least a 6 month commitment, but length of service is flexible depending on individual circumstances. No prior education experience or knowledge of Spanish is necessary. The only requirement is that volunteers have some experience of working with children. A bilingual American program coordinator will provide orientation, training and ongoing support during the entire length of service with the school.

In their spare time volunteers have the opportunity to teach private English lessons to gain extra spending money or take private Spanish classes (£1.50 per hour).

Volunteers receive free housing, meals, an airport pick-up, and a £20 monthly stipend. The project will also pay 25% of your round trip airfare. Volunteers have the option of living in a house with other English speaking volunteers working at the school or with a local family.

add to favorites Theatre Interns $ 0.00

Independent London-based production company seeks enthusiastic and highly motivated interns who can commit their time through the end of August for a summer theatre production.

Vulture Culture is a multi-faceted company, whose past work includes short films that have screened at Cannes in 2007 and 2009, and the play READER by Ariel Dorfman in conjunction with Amnesty International in 2007. Along with our present theatre production, we have sitcoms in development, which have already garnered attention from a major network, and ongoing Corporate Film projects.

Over the coming months there will be plenty of room for development and the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities and advanced roles within the production, and future positions within the company as it’s other projects go forward.

Particularly desirable are those with experience in publicity, advertising, and fundraising. A background in theatre production is desirable but not necessary, and actors with additional technical skills would be appreciated.

Please send CVs and cover letters describing relevant past education and work experience, and what area of production most interests you.

This position is unpaid, but there will be opportunity to advance to profit-sharing as the production goes forward.

Volunteers will be placed in an orphanage where they will live with the children, or with our host family, assisting them in their day to day routine. The children are mostly between the ages of four and fifteen, and have a basic understanding of English. The general role of the volunteer will be to act as an older sibling: to care for, look after and encourage the children. Volunteers will teach the children general life skills, including health and sanitation, as well as arts, crafts and music. Depending on your own skills and interests, though, you can also teach songs, music, dance, cooking, or any number of activities, and generally just spend quality time with the children
